Why purchase a computer having the Microsoft Windows
operating system?

If already a long term user of a Mac, it may not be the
way to go.
Recommendations to go with Windows 7 over Vista
are as follows:
If an older PC---Avoid upgrading at all unless absolutely
must do so. Not recommended.
If purchasing a new computer---Only if with a multi-core
processor and more than 2 GB of RAM, expect to spend at least $1,500 or
avoid going with Windows 7 with new computer.
Recommend not to purchase a new computer priced less than
$750 of which has Windows 7 installed as that system will likely run too slow
for practical use within the first week or 6 months of use.
If you are willing to pay for it, purchase a Dell Precision
having two top end quad core processors fully loaded with memory having a
24" flat panel display for around $3,000!
Regarding Reliability: Any computer system of which
is not cooled properly will experience a shorter lifespan with respect to
internal components (power supply, hard drive, CD/DVD drive, memory in
particular) than a properly cooled PC.
Many low price, off-the shelf PCs tend to overheat---worst
PCs I have ever seen for this are the "eMachines." Other cases
include a PC of which has adequate cooling until---the computer case is
loaded with accessories and then jammed into a cramped space inside of a
cabinet or hutch cooking all parts inside. Result is degraded
performance and premature failure of internal components.
Read through a comparison (Click here for PDF document)
between an HP Media Center PC and a Dell Precision----
For the money, an HP Media Center will run faster, yet the
Dell Precision will operate more reliably...in a mission critical business
environment where failures are certainly not part of the minute-to-minute
operations---never choose an "off-the shelf" PC---make sure it is a PC
having a high rating of reliability such as the Dell Precision series.
Again---how well cooled a computer is in many cases
will dictate the degree of reliability.
Performance and features will depend on how much you are
willing to spend.
Sometimes it is more beneficial to purchase two computers
over one costly high performance PC. It depends on how one wishes to
work with their computer(s).
A Media Center PC offers an incredibly potent multimedia package of which includes
a digital video recorder. You can record directly from a VCR, DVD
player or---any program listing provided through cable TV. Even has
an AM/FM Stereo receiver.

An awesome combination in particular when used with a
high speed Internet and cable TV connection allowing for a massive array of
audio/video options to work with.

If you need a powerful multimedia PC at a low price,
do not go with Apple, choose an HP Media Center PC instead...yet expect a
shorter lifespan over a Mac or PC having higher rating of hardware/software
reliability as discussed on this page.
Choosing a Mac over a PC can be a tenuous decision.
For the money, a Microsoft Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional or
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 PC has more raw computing power than a
Mac---yet the Microsoft PC has substantially more issues with security.
The Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems without
question provide an increased level of security.
As there is much computing power and compatibility when
using a Microsoft PC, the security threats have now grown to gargantuan
proportions and in particular with Spyware and computer viruses.

More so the case now is Spyware as the number one issue
to contend with at a Windows PC in order to keep it running properly.
One of the most disgusting cases in purchasing a new
computer is to buy a computer having the Microsoft Windows operating system
and---that PC is already pre-loaded with Spyware.
Every wonder why some powerful new Windows computers are sold
at less than $300? The purpose is to inundate the user with highly
engineered marketing surveys in order to deliver to you more junk carrier
mail and E-mail. That computer is sold at a loss in efforts to collect
information about you of which is sold at profit to marketing firms.
This does not point out that a computer from Apple can not
get a computer virus or become infected with Spyware.
The fact remains that the Microsoft computers are much
more so targeted for infection than computers from Apple.
Ask anyone who knows anyone---who has had a computer
virus or some type of malicious software running at an Apple computer
running OS X 10.5 or higher---a futile search.
Much of the popular software running on a PC can be
installed on a Mac at less or the same cost of the PC.
If a PC is not totally needed and already a Mac user, get a Mac if you can or get infected, get frustrated and fight with complex
security software.
